One Killed In Chain-Reaction Crash At Suffolk County Intersection

One person was killed in a chain-reaction crash at a busy Long Island intersection overnight.

It happened around 10:40 p.m.  Thursday, March 11 in Deer Park, Suffolk County Police said.

A man driving a 2021 Toyota Camry and a woman driving a 2001 Honda Accord were both stopped at a red light on Grand Avenue facing eastbound, when a 2009 Mazda, driven by a man, struck both vehicles from behind, Suffolk County Police said.

The crash forced all three vehicles into the intersection, causing a collision with a 2020 Nissan Sentra being driven by a man southbound on Deer Park Avenue, according to police. The collision forced the Toyota across Deer Park Avenue and off the roadway.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. 

The driver of the Honda, Ying Zhang, age 45, of Greenlawn, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. 

The driver of the Mazda, Andra Perry, age 18, of Valley Stream, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. 

The driver of the Nissan, Jordan Stern, age 32, of Melville, was not injured.

The vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
